The list of clean energy generation ideas gets longer every day. One rather odd niche is 'sweat energy' ... using human physical activity to generate electricity ...
The Green Microgym is a Portland (USA) based personal fitness studio where the spin bikes generate 750 watts of electricity. Combined with other clean and efficient energy (solar on roof, no shower facilities) then the studio claims to use 30% less energy than a conventional fitness studio.
California Fitness is a Hong Kong based fitness studio where the cycling and cross-training machines generate electricity, enough to power the lighting.
Club4Climate is a London based night club where dance floor gyrations generate electricity, enough to provide 60% of the clubs energy needs. Reinforcing its clean credentials, the club also offers an admission price discount to clubbers that can proove that they walked, cycled or used public transport to travel to the club. Clubs's tagline is "all you have to do is dance to save the world" ...
Even corporate giants are spotting a seeming emerging niche. Orange, the mobile phone operator, at Glastonbury Festival launched a Dance Powered Charger that charges a mobile phone from 'dance energy' plus RechargePod, a 7 metre tall wind-powered, mobile phone recharging station. Both products provided via GotWind.
All corkingly innovative ideas. Taking an proven, profitable business model (gyms, clubs) and adding a clean energy component could likely act as smart marketing differentiation and save costs. Plus lower energy consumption - if only by a little.
